MLK Jr. Day ON! Register for a free T-shirt!

The Heidelberg University Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee (DEIC) is excited to announce our MLK Jr. Day ON! activities for January 16, 2023. The day will begin at 9 am. Attendance is required for all faculty and staff members.

We hope to arrange the events to allow everyone an opportunity to participate, learn, and reflect on ways that are meaningful to each of us. There will be more details to come; however, we are asking you to pre-register for the event no later than December 14 to receive a T-Shirt. By pre-registering, you will receive the official MLK Jr. Day ON! t-shirt with the 2023 design. You will still be able to register after this date but will not be guaranteed a shirt.

You can pre-register for your free T-shirt here. We are excited to welcome Joe Worthy '08 back to our campus to help lead the MLK Jr. Day ON! event.

Community Service Projects: This year we are asking each office and department to plan their own service project for the morning either on or off campus. Here is a list of possible service sites.

Once you’ve arranged your service, please add your area’s service site to this Google document.

Students will have a separate project with Rise Against Hunger preparing meals. The student service project has limited space and students will sign up on a first-come, first-serve basis.

For those who have children who have the day off of school, you are welcome to bring them to campus to participate in the service projects. While faculty and staff are in the afternoon workshop, children in kindergarten through fifth grade are encouraged to join the HU Teachers of Mathematics in the Education Department for fun and informative games.

We are excited about this celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and hope you will plan to join us as we seek to learn and grow both individually and as a campus community!

Sincerely,

DEIC Committee Members
