'Belle of Amherst" explores famed poet's life

The School of Music & Theatre will welcome guest artist Jennifer Burke for the one-woman show, The Belle of Amherst, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, in Gundlach Theatre.

The Belle of Amherst, which explores the secrets, eccentricities and passions of the famous poet Emily Dickinson, was made famous by legendary actress Julie Harris. Met with surprises at every turn, Dickinson puts pen to paper to overcome daunting challenges. At times, she is compelled to “stop the world” as creativity starts – and her poems come to life in the unique voice that defied the conventions of her time. In her own words, Dickinson said, “Every town must have its local character, and that’s what I am!”

General admission tickets are $10 and subscriber tickets are $5. Students can attend, free of charge. Tickets are available at www.gundlachtheatre.org.
