Author, life-writer to deliver Minds@Work keynote address

Heidelberg is pleased to welcome an inspiring author and scholar, who will present the keynote address at the Minds@Work Research Conference at 11 a.m. April 8.

Julija Šukys is known for her deeply researched essays and books, Julija brings forgotten voices to life – telling the stories of individuals caught in war, exile and silence.

An associate professor at the University of Texas at Austin, Julija has explored the impact of violence across generations and national borders. Her upcoming book, Artifact: Encounters with the Campus Shooting Archives (2025), continues her commitment to uncovering difficult histories. Her previous works include Siberian Exile: Blood, War, and a Granddaughter’s Reckoning (2017), Epistolophilia: Writing the Life of Ona Šimaitė (2012), and Silence is Death:
The Life and Work of Tahar Djaout (2007).
