PALS to welcome Minneapolis TV anchor
Broadcast journalist Brandi Powell, an anchor/reporter inMinneapolis, will be the guest of the fall Patricia Adams Lecture Series.
Faculty, staff and students are invited to attend dinner and Powell’s keynote address, Scared to Embrace What I’m Good At: Finding, Recognizing and Cultivating Your Gifts, at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, in Seiberling Gymnasium.
Powell has been an anchor/reporter with the ABC affiliate KSTP-TV in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minn., for nearly five years. She began her news broadcasting career in Bismarck, N.D., followed by stints in Austin, Texas, and San Diego. She is the recipient of multiple team Emmy awards for her news coverage as well as two North Dakota Associated Press Awards and several individual Emmy nominations. She is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists and Twin Cities Black Journalists. Powell is a 2004 graduate of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where she majored in communication studies and minored in Spanish. She earned her master’s degree in anthropology from George Washington University, specializing in international development.
Cost for faculty and staff to attend the dinner and Powell’s keynote address ranges from $15-$25, depending on meal option of chicken, vegan or steak. Reservations are needed by Thursday, Oct. 5, and can be made here. A reception and cash bar will be held prior to the dinner, beginning at 5:45 p.m. in Seiberling Gymnasium
