Meet the Student Research Conference keynote speaker: Dr. Ben Pugno

Dr. Benjamin J. Pugno, associate professor of humanities at Columbus State Community College, will be the keynote speaker for this year’s Student Research Conference on April 13.

This year, the keynote will be presented virtually. The topic will be Fear, Blame, Isolation, and Sanitation: Public Responses to Epidemics.

Dr. Pugno teaches courses on European history, World History and Classics, including History of Medicine. He is the Regional Humanities Lead at Columbus State’s Delaware campus. His dissertation, Physicians of the Body and Soul: Healing and Conversion in Anglo-Saxon England, focused on the relationship between medicine and religion in Early Medieval England and won the Helen Maud Cam dissertation grant rom the Medieval Academic of America.

In 2016, he was awarded an NEH Initiatives at Community Colleges grant to develop the first survey-level, two-course sequence on the History of Western Medicine in the U.S. Most recently, he co-authored a two-volume OER textbook, titled A History of Western Medicine, Disease, and Public Health.

Dr. Pugno’s passion is teaching, but he also enjoys hiking, watching sports and movies, and spending time with his wife, our own Dr. Courtney DeMayo Pugno, and their two children.

Stay tuned. We'll provide the link to join the Zoom presentation soon!
