"Once Upon a Time" at Heidelberg

Heidelberg’s four local sororities and one gender-neutral society are partnering for a ball on Friday, January 27. In Wickham Great Hall at 8:30 PM, the members of Delta Sigma Chi, the Euglossian Society, the Philalethean Society, Kappa Psi Omega and Zeta Theta Psi will gather in black tie or fairytale attire and masquerade masks for the Once Upon a Time Ball. Together, these five groups will host a fun, formal night of appetizers and dancing for all of campus to enjoy.

Greek groups are always trying to work with each other, getting to know each other and ultimately having larger events, overall. This goal of all Greek groups helped inspire such a massive collaboration.

Rebecca Eppard, a junior and committee head for Zeta Greek events, spearheaded the project with the desire to throw a formal ball. “I really wanted an excuse to get a new dress and dress up,” Rebecca said. This ambitious project warranted a big partnership, and ultimately working with all of the sororities and the Eugs was the best option. “It’s a way to spend time together, build community in the groups, and allow all of campus to get to know the groups in a very low-pressure environment,” Rebecca said.

Due to the size of the event, the planning has been extensive. The first email went out to the partnering groups in November, and planning began in earnest after returning from Thanksgiving break.

I could not have asked for a better group to plan this ball with. I had never planned something like this alone. Without Olivia Huffman on decorations, Lauren Buskirk making the poster, and Abby Burling designing the shirts, I don't think this event would be possible. There are so many amazing people who are responsible for putting on this event.

The committee for this event is comprised of representatives from all five groups and includes: Abby Burling, Cassidy Beringer, Crimson Stuckert, Jeb Crow, Kailyn Kroll, Katelyn Gluck, Kelsey Stanfield, Lauren Buskirk, Melissa Risser, Olivia Huffman, Sarah Clemens, Scooter Austin and Sierra Octaviano.
