HYPE Common Experience mentor apps now open

The HYPE Common Experiences are back for the beginning of the 2021-22 academic year and we are now taking applications for mentors for both the First Year Common Experience at Camp Glen and the Second Year Common Experience at the Habitat for Humanity Blitz Build!

HYPE mentors are senior students who provide leadership and guidance to students while participating in the Common Experiences on Sunday, August 15 and Monday, August 16, 2021.  HYPE Common Experience mentors can receive HYPE 300-Level Experience credit and are restricted to students who will be in their fourth year at Heidelberg in Fall 2021. All freshmen, sophomores and juniors will be participating in HYPE on these two days, so you will not miss any athletic practices or student organization events by participating.

The First Year Common Experience will take place at Camp Glen in Tiffin. Mentors will receive training on Sunday, August 15, and then lead the first-year students in an Olympics-style competition of team-building activities with a bonfire finale on Monday, August 16. The goal of the First Year Common Experience is for new students to bond with each other and the ‘Berg, so it's important for mentors to draw out every student and help them make connections.

The Second Year Common Experience will be a Habitat for Humanity Blitz Build on campus. Mentors will receive training and will cut and stack lumber on Sunday, August 15 in preparation for the build. Mentors will then instruct and assist student teams in building walls using provided blueprints.

We strongly encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity! You can fill out the form here. Applications received by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, April 30, will receive priority consideration.

To receive HYPE 300-Level credit after working with one of the Common Experiences, mentors will need to submit a HYPE 300/400 Level Registration Form on inside.heidelberg.edu under the Documents & Tabs Form.

If you have any questions about the application or the experiences, please email hype@heidelberg.edu.
