Senator Sherrod Brown Summer Internship

The office of U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown is offering an internship program this spring that is open to students of all majors.

The application for spring internships in Senator Sherrod Brown’s Washington, D.C., and Ohio offices are currently open here. Due to the continuing status of the pandemic, the internship will be a hybrid virtual/in-person experience – the expectation is to be in-office regularly but also have the ability to work remotely, as needed (especially for students attending schools away from office locations). Equipment and supplies will be shipped to accepted interns.

Applicants must be current college students or have graduated within a month of the start date of the internship – May 29, 2023. Applicants must be available at least 20 hours per week, with a preference for 4-hour blocks of availability at a time or more. This allows for a better learning experience for the intern. Interns may work up to 40 hours per week. Interns that demonstrate need will have the opportunity to be paid $15 per hour; otherwise, interns may work unpaid only if receiving college credit or sponsorship/financial compensation from an external organization. Interested students should apply by February 28, 2023, 11:59 p.m. Late applications will not be considered.

Interns in Senator Brown’s Office work on a wide range of projects with staff. The internships are designed primarily for the educational benefit of students currently enrolled in college. Interns will have the opportunity to participate in all aspects of the office administration, activities, working with constituents, developing special programs, and attend community events. Interns have the opportunity to assist in a variety of tasks that range from answering phones and opening mail to assisting staff with constituent casework, scheduling, grant research, outreach events and special projects. Interns learn firsthand the office functions and its importance in the overall effectiveness of a member of the U.S. Senate. Additionally, there is a press internship available for those interested in communications/journalism.

The office is an equal employment opportunity employer and strongly encourages all interested candidates of all majors and disciplines to apply, including women, people of color, veterans, and LGBTQIA individuals. Applicants with disabilities who require reasonable accommodations to participate effectively in the application or hiring processes are encouraged to request accommodation at any time during those processes.
