Parking Restrictions Begin Sunday

The following letter was emailed to the campus community on Friday, March 8, detailing the upcoming construction project on campus.

Dear Campus Community,

Construction begins Monday, March 11, on the Sarah Street project which connects East Perry Street (near Pit Stop) to Greenfield Street (near France Hall). Beginning Sunday, March 10, there will be inconveniences during construction that directly affect those using Parking Lot E (behind France & Brown Halls) and Parking Lot D (behind the Berg Bistro 1850).

These lots are only accessible now from East Perry Street (near Pit Stop), where the north portion of Sarah Street will remain open for two-way traffic through the end of the semester. The east portion of Sarah Street (between France Hall & National Machinery) is designated one-way-only, going south exiting onto Greenfield Street. You will not be able to enter Sarah Street and the France & Brown parking lots from Greenfield Street for the balance of the semester.

The first section of work focuses on the west (France) side of the street and during the next few weeks it will not be possible to cross the area under construction to access the parking lot. For all parking areas, you must enter the lot from Sarah Street via the East Perry Street (Pit Stop area).

There will also be a significant number of spaces temporarily lost during construction. You will find those areas barricaded off upon your return from spring break. A small temporary lane will be created to accommodate cars parked in the first three rows of parking directly behind France Hall including the area designated for faculty & staff parking.

I urge you to be aware of newly posted signs directing and redirecting traffic as needed and also to be aware of the presence of workers and equipment during the work day.

The completed project will create two full lanes the entire length of Sarah Street for better and safer traffic flow. Thank you in advance for your patience, understanding and cooperation. Starting this important campus area improvement now was deemed to be significantly less intrusive than being under construction at the beginning of the very busy fall semester.

Important note: The HU community cannot park in the National Machinery parking lots. Those lots will be aggressively patrolled and those in violation will be ticketed by Tiffin City Police and risk being towed at the owner’s expense. Parking Lot G (next to Rock Creek) has spaces available for those unable to find space in Lot E.

If you have questions or concerns during this construction project, feel free to email me or Jeff Rhoades, director of Campus Safety & Security, at jrhoade1@heidelberg.edu.

Sincerely,

Rod Morrison
Associate Vice President for Facilities & Engineering
