HU planning for traditional Commencement at Stadium

While Spring Break is fresh in our minds, it’s not too early to begin to plan for Commencement 2022, which will be here in about two months. Provost Bryan Smith has announced Heidelberg’s intent to return to a single, in-person Commencement ceremony, to be held at 10 a.m. Sunday, May 15, 2022.
 
At this point, we feel comfortable enough with the positive downward trajectory of COVID-19 in our community to move forward with planning for our traditional outdoor ceremony in Hoernemann Stadium. The rain site would be Seiberling Gymnasium. If all factors fall in our favor and we are able to gather at Hoernemann Stadium, our graduating students would be able to invite an unlimited number of guests, which would be our preference.
 
However, with the uncertainties we have come to expect with the pandemic and the always unpredictable weather in mid-May, we are working through several contingency plans should we have to pivot to a different scenario.
 
We will continue to communicate our final decision and additional details about Commencement, and we will post updated information on the Commencement webpage on inside.heidelberg.edu as promptly as possible whenever necessary.
 
Graduation is a very significant accomplishment, and we are excited to celebrate with you on May 15.
