GO BERG to stay healthy during COVID-19

We are two months into the COVID-19 health crisis. While we have settled into our new “normal” of social isolation, wearing masks and using hand sanitizer, among other precautions, the adjustments can provoke frustration, overwhelming feelings, stress and anxiety for a lot of people.

In addition to providing tele-health and tele-counseling services to Heidelberg students while they are away from the campus, Stoner Health & Counseling Center has offered tips and resources for coping with stress and staying physically and mentally healthy during these uncertain times.

John Sharp, associate director of counseling, created this awesome and helpful GO BERG acronym:

G - Get outside

O - Offer support for those in need and stay connected to others

B - Be nice to yourself

E - Engage in healthy habits, i.e. eating, sleeping, studying, exercise, encouraging others

R - Relax, use mindful techniques

G - Get help, using resources available to you including Stoner Health and Counseling Center.

John goes more into depth with some specific tips about GO BERG reminder in this video.

Additionally, the staff at Stoner recommends tips provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for managing stress during the COVID-19 outbreak that includes these sections:

Household Checklist

Stress and Coping

Running Essential Errands

Visiting Parks & Recreational Facilities

Protecting Yourself When Running Errands

Caring for Children

If You Have Animals

Additionally, if you have questions or would like additional resources, feel free to reach out to the team at Stoner Health & Counseling Center at (419) 448-2041.
