Partners in Academic Success (PACE)
Interested in working with criminal justice-involved youth? Partners in Academic Coaching for Excellence (PACE) works alongside juvenile probation officers and local youth who need support completing homework assignments.
PACE is a partnership between Seneca County Juvenile Court and Heidelberg University to provide tutoring services to students on probation. The program pairs Heidelberg students as “academic coaches” with local children, ages 12-18, as a condition of the children’s probation. The Heidelberg tutors work on homework and literacy, and provide a positive perspective about school and learning. We meet on Wednesdays for an hour, from 3-4pm in Aigler 4. Makenna Finnegan runs the show, and Dr. Sarah Lazzari advises the coaches.
If interested, please fill out the application by September 20.
Our orientation is September 27 from 3-4pm. To participate in the program, you have to get a background check done and attend the orientation. Working with PACE for a semester also counts as a HYPE 300-level experience.
