Naloxone Emergency Kits Info Sessions
The Stoner Health and Counseling Center invites you to stop by for an informal “education session” to learn more about Heidelberg’s soon-to-be-installed naloxone emergency cabinets. There are two opportunities to stop by and chat with us about how to use the kits:
Friday, December 8, 11 a.m.-noon – The HeidelBean
Tuesday, December 12, 11 a.m.-noon – The HeidelBean
During those times, we will be demonstrating how to use the naloxone emergency kits in the case of a suspected overdose on campus. As you know, overdoses involving opioids such as fentanyl are killing people in dramatically increasing numbers, and the college student population is considered high risk. Naloxone, which is a nasal spray, has been proven to be a safe way to reverse the effects of an overdose from opioid drugs such as fentanyl or heroin by blocking the effects of the drug on the brain and quickly restoring breathing.
Earlier this year, the Center took advantage of an opportunity provided by the state to secure, free of charge, five naloxone emergency cabinets. Those cabinets will be installed in the residence halls, near the AED (automated external defibrillator) units in the halls.
You can read more about the naloxone emergency cabinets on Heidelberg’s website.
We hope you can stop by for a few minutes on either the 8th or the 12th. The information you learn may just save a life!
