The programs of the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences are designed to provide a background in the earth and life sciences within the context of a liberal arts education, and to prepare majors for occupational goals and advanced training. We provide opportunities for our students to conduct their own self-designed research projects, gain internship experience, and travel to scientific meetings so that when the time comes to apply for jobs or graduate/professional schools your application stands out from the crowd.

Biology Major

Interested in health-related professions? The Biology major prepares those who plan to work in the fields of medicine, veterinary medicine, dentistry, medical technology, allied health, podiatry, nursing, pharmacology, physical therapy, and public health.

Love biology but not into health careers? We also prepare students for careers in agriculture, horticulture, agronomy, forestry, plant pathology and forensic biology, just to name a few. Learn more about:

Environmental Science and Sustainability Major

This interdisciplinary major is designed to prepare students to meet the growing demand for environmental scientists and managers. Students will interact regularly with staff scientists of the National Center for Water Quality Research (NCWQR) to collect, analyze, and interpret environmental data necessary for improved water resource management in the Great Lakes Basin and Ohio River basins.
