Facility Policies & Procedures

General

  • Shirt and shoes must be worn at all times.
  • No bare skin can be in direct contact with the equipment.
  • Appropriate athletic attire must be worn at all times in all activity areas. Patrons are not allowed to exercise in jeans, dress pants, button-down shirts or non-athletic skirts. No bare skin can be in direct contact with equipment. A shirt must be worn at all times to provide protection to the equipment and patrons. Only non-marking, closed-toe athletic shoes are allowed on any hardwood or composition floor. No hard sole shoes allowed. Saurwein Health and Wellness staff reserves the right to determine if attire is appropriate.
  • The Saurwein Health and Wellness Center is intended for individual workouts. There are no organized team lifting times in the Saurwein Health and Wellness Center unless approved by the Saurwein Health and Wellness Center Professional Staff.
  • Please end all cellphone calls before approaching the Customer Service Desk.
  • Members or guests younger than age 15 cannot use the facility.
  • Ages 18 and older have no restrictions for participation in specific facility areas.
  • Signs, fliers or posters may not be displayed/distributed without permission from Saurwein Health and Wellness, Saurwein Health and Wellness Center, Saurwein Health and Wellness Center Professional Staff.
  • There is no solicitation allowed in or around the Saurwein Health and Wellness Center without permission from the Saurwein Health and Wellness Center Professional Staff.
  • Any photography or video recording is prohibited without permission from Campus Saurwein Health and Wellness Center Professional Staff.
  • All bikes must be locked up outside of the facility and are not permitted inside the Saurwein Health and Wellness Center.
  • No third party training or instruction is allowed without an authorized contract recognized by Saurwein Health and Wellness Center Professional Staff.
  • Water in a closed container is permitted throughout the facility. Sports drinks, food and supplements are permitted in the first floor game room/lounge areas but not activity spaces.
  • Glass is prohibited in the recreation center.
  • No full-contact training outside of an instructional clinic or sports club practice. Examples include grappling, wrestling and mixed martial arts.
  • No profanity is allowed in the Saurwein Health and Wellness Center.
  • No fighting is allowed in the Saurwein Health and Wellness Center. Participation in fighting will result in immediate removal from the facility.
  • No spitting on the floors or carpet within the Saurwein Health and Wellness Center.
  • If blood is found on clothing, that clothing must be changed before resuming activities in the Saurwein Health and Wellness Center. If blood is found on a participant, it must be cleaned and covered before resuming any activities. If blood is found in an activity area, the activity must stop until all blood is cleaned up properly by staff.
  • Personal listening devices must have headphones at all times.
  • Television stations will only be changed for a major broadcast or any sport contest at the discretion of Campus Saurwein Health and Wellness Center staff.
  • Alcohol, drugs and tobacco products are not permitted anywhere in the Saurwein Health and Wellness Center, including outdoor spaces.
  • Please consult a physician prior to engaging in physical activity. Saurwein Health and Wellness Center is not responsible for accidents or injuries that occur due to the nature of the activity.
  • Injuries, accidents or equipment failures must be immediately reported to Saurwein Health and Wellness Center staff.
  • The Saurwein Health and Wellness Center not responsible for lost or stolen items. Please use locks on your lockers.
  • All tours must be escorted by a Saurwein Health and Wellness Center staff member.
  • Inappropriate sexual behavior and/or sexual misconduct are prohibited.

Disciplinary Policy

  • Misconduct or violation due to failure to follow facility policies may result in ejection from the facility, suspension and/or referral to the dean of Student Affairs, director of the YMCA and/or City Police.
  • Patrons are responsible for their children’s and/or guests’ conduct and any damage to or loss of property that may result in their guests’ actions. Disciplinary action may result in the loss of guest or membership privileges. A meeting with a professional staff member will be required to discuss possible reinstatement.

Locker Room

  • Food and drink is permitted in locker rooms in closed containers.
  • Due to privacy concerns, you may be asked to discontinue use of electronic devices. Photograph and video are strictly prohibited.
  • Locker rooms close when the building closes.

Activity Areas

  • Saurwein Health and Wellness Center programs have priority of usage over informal recreation use. We reserve the right to cancel or change any program.
  • Only non-marking, athletic shoes are allowed on any hardwood or composite floor. No hard sole shoes allowed.
  • We recommend all personal belongings be placed in a locker. Saurwein Health and Wellness Center is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
  • The use of banisters for stretching bands is strictly prohibited.
  • Saurwein Health and Wellness Center staff reserves the right to eliminate behaviors deemed unsafe. Safety and proper use of equipment are ensured at all times.

Weight & Fitness Areas

  • Patrons must use the gym wipes to wipe down fitness equipment after use as a courtesy to other patrons.
  • Please limit workout to 30 minutes per machine when patrons are waiting to use equipment.
  • Dropping weights is prohibited, as it damages the equipment and floors.
  • Do not prop the weights up against the walls, mirrors, frames or pillars.
  • Keep hands and feet clear of moving parts while using machines.
  • Please re-rack all weights after use.
  • Do not operate or attempt to repair machines with loose or damaged parts. Notify the Saurwein Health and Wellness Center staff if equipment presents a danger.
  • All Personal Trainers must be hired through Saurwein Health and Wellness Center and the YMCA. No third party training or instruction is allowed.
  • Use of weight collars is required at all times.
  • Due to facility space limitations and safety concerns, the following free weight lifts are only permitted in the cages: clean and jerk, and power clean lifts. Snatch is not allowed in the weight room or fitness area.
  • Powdered chalk is prohibited in the facility.
  • Appropriate attire and athletic shoes must be worn at all times.
  • Spotting is highly recommended.
  • No outside equipment (chains, kettlebells, bands, etc.) is permitted in the Saurwein Health and Wellness Center.

Group Fitness Studios

  • It is recommended that participants stay for the entire Group Fitness class to ensure participation in the proper cool-down phase of class.
  • Pre-registration is required for select classes. Please refer to the Group Fitness schedule. Registration can be done at the YMCA or online. There will be no in person registration conducted at the Saurwein Health and Wellness Center.
  • Maximum enrollment for each class depends on type and/or level of instruction. For maximum enrollment, please refer to the Group Fitness schedule.
  • All equipment must remain in the studios and must be returned to its proper location and cleaned after use.
  • All equipment should be used in the manner for which it is designed.
  • No gum chewing allowed in the group fitness studios.
  • Footwear removal may be appropriate in certain classes and at the instructor’s discretion.
  • All Group Fitness class participants must be 15 years of age or older. Any participant ages 15 to 17 must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Towels and water are recommended for all classes.
  • Group Fitness Studios will remain locked upon completion of a class. Informal recreation will require a Facility Manager to provide access.
  • Please refer to the general policies and procedures for any clarification.

Lost, Stolen & Found Items

  • Any item turned in as lost/stolen will be recorded in the lost and found log at Customer Service. Members’ personal information will be recorded in the lost and found database upon retrieval.
  • Lost items that have been held for 14 days will be donated to charity.
  • The owner of a stolen item should report the theft to a Saurwein Health and Wellness Center staff member who will complete an incident report and contact Campus Security.
