Student Prince DB Key Cunningham named D3football.com All-American

SALEM, Va. -- Heidelberg University senior defensive back Key Cunningham has been named a Third Team All-American by D3football.com. A week earlier, in mid-December, Key was named first-team All-Region for the first time in his career.

The West Palm Beach, Fla., native made his mark in his senior season for the Student Prince football team. He recorded a career-high six interceptions on the season - tied for fourth all-time in the HU record book.

He also totaled 16 tackles and two fumble recoveries with one resulting in a 40-yard touchdown against Ohio Northern (9/16). Key capped off his impressive career finishing with 81 tackles, two sacks, and eight interceptions.

With Key's inclusion on the All-American team, Heidelberg Football has had at least one national honoree in each of the past 14 seasons. The streak -- which does not include the unusual Spring 2021 season affected by COVID -- dates back to 2009.
