English Dept. to host author

In celebration of Women's History Month, the English Department will host a special presentation, Women's Comedy: #MeToo, Hysteria and Body Politics, at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 22, in Wickham Great Hall.

The presenter will be Linda Mizejewski, co-editor of a new anthology, Hysterical! American Women in Comedy (2017). Her most recent book, Pretty/Funny: Women Comedians and Body Politics, won honorable mention for two national prizes. She is also the author of Divine Decadence: Fascism, Female Spectacle, and the Makings of Sally Bowles (1992), Ziegfeld Girl: Image and Icon in Culture and Cinema (1999), Hardboiled and High Heeled: The Woman Detective in Popular Culture (Routledge, 2004), and It Happened One Night (2010), the latter of which is part of the Wiley-Blackwell Studies in Film and Television.

A member of the faculty at The Ohio State University, Mizejewski has been a Fulbright Lecturer in Slovakia and Romania, and her research has been supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities and the American Council of Learned Societies. At Ohio State, she won the Alumni Distinguished Teaching Award and the Harlan Hatcher Distinguished Faculty Award.

Mizejewski's presentation will be followed by a round-table discussion including Heidelberg faculty and students.

This event is sponsored by The Gekler Fund.
