PURSUITS: Week of Feb. 20, 2017

The Ohio Athletic Trainers' Association has honored Dr. Trevor Bates (Athletic Training) with its Linda Weber daniel Outstanding Mentor Award for 2017.

Dr. Marjorie C. Shavers (Graduate Counseling) submitted a collaborated proposal with Dr. Sharnia Artis at University of California, Irvine to the National Science Foundation: Broadening Participation in Engineering Program. They were awarded this grant in the amount of $400,000 for their proposal, The Niela Project: A Qualitative of the Experiences of Black Women in Pursuit of Doctorate and Postdoctorate in Engineering and Computer Science. This is a four-year grant.

Doug McConnell meets with U of M's Lucky Day Residential College participants.

Dr. Doug McConnell (Music& Theater) was a guest composer at the University of Mississippi, on Feb. 17-18, presenting a lecture recital on his song-cycle, Langston's Lot, assisted by Jos Milton, tenor, Adam Estes, alto saxophone, and Stacy Rodgers, piano. The program was part of the University's Black History Month celebration series. The texts for the song-cycle are taken from the poetry of African-American poet Langston Hughes. 

While in residence, Doug also met with students and staff from the university's Lucky Day Residential College, a special first-year living and learning program.
