Ioana Galu to give farewell performance

After teaching violin at Heidelberg University for the past 11 years, Ioana Galu is saying farewell with a recital at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 6, in Brenneman Music Hall.

This fall, Ioana will join the Rawlins Piano Trio as an assistant professor of violin at the University of South Dakota.

Joining her for her farewell Heidelberg performance will be celebrated pianist Pierre van der Westhuizen, former Heidelberg music faculty member who is now the CEO and president of the Cleveland International Piano Competition.

The program, which Ioana is dedicating to her current and past Heidelberg students, will feature works by Beethoven, Kreisler, Elgar, Igudesman, Gorecki and Penderecki.
