Sigs spend morning volunteering at Salvation Army
The members of Sigma Tau Nu woke up bright and early Saturday morning, Feb. 27, to head to The Salvation Army Tiffin Corps Community Center for a day of volunteering and learning.
The Sigs were greeted by Lt. James Hughes, Corps officer and pastor of The Salvation Army, which focuses on passion and service from others, and they quickly observed this ambition. The Salvation Army’s mission is to preach the gospel and provide a number of services to the community.
Lt. Hughes gave the Sigs a tour of the facility, including the chapel, storage area and other locations.
Their main goal for the day was to organize the dining hall. They began by preparing tables for games, cleaning up the lobby, and finally heading to our last task – a challenging one – cleaning grout on the kitchen floor. They made some progress during their two hours of volunteering, and hope they can return.
Lt. Hughes told the ‘Berg volunteers that The Salvation Army is planning to hold music, art and acting classes soon. To conclude the volunteer experience, he led the group in prayer for success in their careers and safety under the protection of their families and friends.
