Hello, future Student Prince legacies!
Welcoming Heidelberg alumni back to campus is always a highlight, and sometimes, our alumni are the best ambassadors for their alma mater. Next week, they’ll get to show off their Sweet Alma Home to a captive audience: their children and grandchildren.
On Friday, April 1, the Admission Office will host the first-ever Legacy Family Open House for high school juniors who could follow their parents or grandparents or brothers or sisters to Heidelberg.
To date, there are nine students who will visit campus – or, in true Legacy Family fashion, many will visit again – as part of the Legacy Family Open House. Including the prospective Student Princes, 22 people are expected to participate.
“There is nothing more exciting than seeing our alumni return to campus with their children and grandchildren and having the opportunity to recruit the next generation of Student Princes,” says Ashley Helmstetter, assistant vice president for Alumni Engagement and HYPE Career Ready®. “Of course, we hope that all legacies choose us!”
Ashley pitched the idea to Director of Admission Sara Rowlinson, ’17, and the event came together from there. The day for visiting legacy families will look much like a typical Admission open house for prospective students.
According to Sara, the visiting students will take a tour of campus and sit in on a session titled Heidelberg 101, where they will hear about life as a 'Berg student and what Heidelberg has to offer academically and in terms of extra-curricular activities. The juniors also will have an opportunity to meet with professors and have lunch on campus.
“Unique to this day will be a Legacy Student Life Panel, during which current legacy students will speak about their Heidelberg experiences,” Sara says.
As a member of a Heidelberg Legacy Family, students who have a sibling, parent or grandparent who is an alumna or alumnus is eligible for a $1,000 renewable legacy award to assist with their financial aid.
We look forward to welcoming our Legacy Families to campus!
