Gearing up for Minds@Work
More than 100 students are polishing their research presentations in anticipation of the 25th annual Minds@Work Student Research Conference coming on Wednesday, April 11.
Student presentations will take place from 9-11 a.m. and 1:30-5 p.m. in Saurwein, Adams Hall and Bareis Hall, with poster presentations from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in Seiberling Gymnasium.
Highlighting this year's conference will be a keynote address by Dr. Jeremi Suri, a college classmate of Dr. Marc O'Reilly's, at 11 a.m. in Gundlach Theatre.
Suri holds the Mack Brown Distinguished Chair for Leadership in Global Affairs at The University of Texas at Austin. He is a professor in the university's History Department and the LBJ School of Public Affairs. The most recent book, The Impossible Presidency: The Rise and Fall of America's Highest Office, will frame his keynote at Heidelberg. He will argue that the presidency is a victim of its own success -- the vastness of the job makes it almost impossible to fulfill the expectations placed upon it. As managers of the world's largest economy and military, contemporary presidents must react to a truly globalized world in a 24-hour news cycle. There is little room left for bold vision.
The author of eight additional books including Henry Kissinger's biography, Suri also writes for various online sites and blogs. He has received numerous awards for his teaching and research, most recently the President's Associates Teaching Excellence Award from the University of Texas. He teaches courses on strategy and decision-making, leadership, globalization, international relations and modern history. He has an A.B. degree in history from Stanford University, a master's degree in history from Ohio University and a Ph.D. in history from Yale University.
We will soon be posting the list of student presenters and other details of Minds@Work. Stay tuned.
