Led by Siggy, 'Berg community volunteers to beautify downtown in honor of 175th
Heidelberg University – especially students – showed up in force Sunday to give back to their home away from home. Siggy’s spring Clean-Up in Downtown Tiffin, a cool signature event as part of Heidelberg’s 175th Anniversary celebration, showcased the long-standing partnership between Heidelberg and the Tiffin community.
Siggy’s Spring Clean-Up drew more than ‘Berg 200 volunteers – a lively combination of students, faculty, staff and family members – who came together to help beautify downtown Tiffin, where we share the opportunity to live, learn and lead.
The event was organized by Ashley Helmstetter, vice president of Advancement, Alumni, and Community Relations, and Ben Pugno, Director of Student Engagement.
“The turnout of our campus community coming out in droves shows how much we care and value the town that we call home,” Ashley said. “We are proud of our hometown and want to do our part to make sure it remains a beautiful and vibrant destination for all of our community members and visitors.”
Greeted by Siggy, Heidelberg’s mascot, ’Berg volunteers streamed into Wickham Great Hall, where they divided into eight zones and picked up their T-shirts and cleaning supplies. The group then departed on foot to conquer their task of picking up trash. They fanned out over five city blocks on South Washington Street, from the Ritz Theatre on the north end to the Clover Club on the south end.
Siggy made the trek downtown too, doing his part to provide encouragement and exercise his muscles.
Heidelberg’s next designated 175th Anniversary event will be Commencement on May 11.
