In second year, 'Berg’s Esports team enjoys post-season success
The sophomore season for Heidelberg’s Esports team continues to roll on, deep into two separate Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) tournaments after a great spring season.
Heidelberg's Call of Duty team has advanced to the finals of the Division C Call of Duty Black Ops 6 ECAC championship. The squad, comprised of Garrett Looney, Logan McCoy, Rece Craft, Ayden Helton, Trenton Mock, Mike Dalton and Kyle Fischer, will face Bellarmine University on Friday, April 11, at 8 p.m.
The Call of Duty tournament run included wins over Army West Point and Trine.
There will be a watch party for the COD finals on Friday starting at 7:30 p.m. in the University Commons. The Berg Bistro will be open with a limited menu from 7-10 p.m. throughout the event, and students are encouraged to wear their Berg gear as the team looks poised to be the first to bring home an Esports championship. The contest will also be streamed live on the Heidelberg Esports Twitch.
The Valorant team -- Nathen Jimenez, Eric Panning, Drew Panning, Harley Collins, Eric Barber, Millie Robbins, Khelei Tillman and Zach Trout -- advanced to the semifinals after victories over Wake Forest and Pittsburgh-Greensburg. They are scheduled to face John Brown University on Tuesday, April 15, at 8:00 p.m. That match will also be streamed live on Twitch.
Heidelberg Esports, under the guidance of Head Coach Ryan McDannell, has experienced tremendous growth in its second year. Students interested in joining the Esports team can express their interest by reaching out to Ryan at rmcdanne@heidelberg.edu.
