SAAC hands out Siggys

The Student Athlete Advisory Committee passed out 17 Siggy Awards to student-athletes and others in front of about 500 people in Seiberling Gymnasium Sunday night. Scott Carpenter emceed the event.

Members of SAAC worked in conjunction with the Media Communication Center to create a memorable event. The awards were co-sponsored by Heidelberg's Greek Life Council and the individual fraternities and societies. Finalists received a Siggys T-shirt, courtesy of Heidelberg Student Senate. 

The 2016 Siggy Awards drew nominations from Spring 2015, Fall 2015 and Winter 2015-16 athletic seasons.  

This year's finalists (winners in bold)

·         Top Male Athlete of the Year: Zach Hogya (FB), Derek Hug (BSB), Justin Kihn (WRS)

·         Top Female Athlete of the Year: Madison Haasz (TF), Sarah Parker (VB), Marissa Smego (SB)

·         Top Male Individual Performance in a Game/Competition: Dylan Dombi (TF) wins the 1-mile at OACs, Adam Manner (BSB) throws CG shutout over #9 Shenandoah, Tyler Stoyle (FB) throws for 388 yds and 5 TD in first collegiate start 

·         Top Female Individual Performance in a Game/Competition: Paige Atterholt (SB) throws a perfect game, Madison Haasz (TF) finishes sixth in weight throw at NCAAs, Sarah Parker (VB) with 20 kills vs. #25 ONU

·         Top Breakthrough Male Athlete of the Year: Aaron Banko (WRS), Tyler Stoyle (FB), Christian Verde (BSB) 

·         Top Breakthrough Female Athlete of the Year: Denise Bowes (WSC), Taylor Hicks (SB), Jamie Kluding (VB) 

·         Top Male Newcomer (Freshman/Transfer) of the Year: Dillen Decker (WRS), Wes Fritz (TF), Myron Prewitt (MBK)

·         Top Female Newcomer (Freshman/Transfer) of the Year: Alexandra Farmer (WSC), Abbey McKee (SB), Morgan Strenk (VB) 

·         Coach of the Year: Chad Fitzgerald (BSB), Betsy Hada (SB), Jason Miller (VB)

·         Graduate Assistant Coach of the Year: Matt Byrne (FB), Matt Cross (WRS), Nick Soldano (BSB)

·         Team of the Year: 2015 Baseball, 2015 Softball, 2015 Volleyball 

·         Most Supportive Team: Football, Softball, Wrestling

·         SAAC Athletic Trainer of the Year: Monica Bates, Tyson Depinet, Ryan Musgrave

·         SAAC Student Athletic Trainer of the Year: Jackie Abrecht, Anthony Bartko, Brandon McNeil

·         SAAC Special Recognition Award – Most supprortive community Member: Doug Sampson (Photographer), Kevin Scott (Seiberling custodian), Dr. Traci Stark (Faculty Athletic Representative)

·         Top Male Student-Athlete: Derek Hug (BSB)
