School of Music & Theatre ready to entertain you

April is one of the busiest performance months of the year for the School of Music & Theatre.

Here is a taste of what's in store over the next couple of weeks:

TONIGHT: Postcards of Song Faculty Recital

Join Drs. Carol Dusdieker (soprano) and Margarita Denenberg (piano) as they take you on a tour to some exotic locations in their faculty recital, Postcards of Song, at 7:00 tonight in Brenneman Concert Hall.

Two two faculty members in the School of Music & Theatre at Heidelberg University are offering to tease the imagination with a concert of music from exotic locations.

The concert also will feature a video presentation that will “capture all of your senses,” according to Carol. The duo will perform selections from Russian composer Sergei Rachmaninoff, Spanish composer Joaquin Turina, French composer Marie-Joseph Canteloube and American composer Aaron Copeland. The program will conclude with selections from American composer Stephen Sondheim.

SATURDAY NIGHT: Singing Collegians

The Singing Collegians will present Shadows of Light – a theme that juxtaposes darkness and light – for its spring concert at 7 p.m. Saturday in Gundlach Theatre.

The 23-member Collegians, under the direction of Dr. Daniel Clark, will perform such standards as Shadows of the Night, Oh, What a Night and Into the Night. And on the flip side, they will entertain with the lighter Oh, Beautiful Day, Lights and A Thousand Beautiful Things.

Interspersed throughout the program will be solos and duets and solos to help demonstrate the theme. Soloists include Teddy Berger, Melissa Tippin, Kristina Kamm, Laura Bayda, Kelly Devine, Haley Hudler, Cedric Robinson and Gavin Hubbard.

SATURDAY, APRIL 23: University-Community Chorus

The University-Community Chorus’ spring concert will hold special meaning for a number of the performers, who were invited to select the pieces as a tribute to a former member of the ensemble or favorites from past concerts.

Director Dr. Daniel Clark said the singers chose a very nice program that will honor late members Bob Overholt, a co-founder of the group, and John Groce, among others.

The concert is scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday, April 23, at Trinity United Church of Christ in Tiffin. The chorus will perform, among other selections, The American Mass, which weaves together Latin Mass movements with American folk tunes, the Irving Berlin classic Blue Skies and a Hebrew piece in honor of Passover.

Soloists will include sisters Brittany and Brianne Cook, Doug DeVos and Diane Stallings.
