An Elegy for Lindsay

The campus said goodbye to friend and colleague Lindsay Kagy at a beautiful memorial service on Saturday. Lindsay, who was an administrative assistant in Student Affairs, died May 10. During her 15 years at Heidelberg, she assisted the faculty of Pfleiderer, among those Dr. Bill Reyer. Bill authored the following elegy in her memory.

Green and Golden Leaves

In Memoriam: Lindsay Kagy

Learning to pray
Is learning to live
In a garden –

A garden of solitude
Planted and appointed
For oneself - and one Other –

Whose respiration moves
Green and golden leaves
Such as Vincent witnessed

As he softly and gently stroked
Pigments onto canvas
In his loving madness –

A garden of quiet
And of soul-repose
For a thousand thousand years –
