Huge crowd celebrates Alumni Weekend
The Alumni Weekend of today is not like the Alumni Weekend of yesterday. Yes, we still honor and celebrate our favorite traditions, like the Parade of Classes, the Alumni Choir, Classes Without Quizzes and the annual alumni awards presentation. But participation is changing. We are always happy to shine a light on reunion classes -- especially the 50-year class -- but we are seeing greater participation from non-reunion-year alumni. This can be attributed to the addition of some new events, such as the Greek reception, an athletics reception and special entertainment.
“We had great participation from reunion classes and those who continue to come back year after year after year,” said Ashley Helmstetter, executive director of Alumni Engagement and Major Gifts. “We are always so happy to see them, but it warms my heart to welcome other alumni who are not in reunion classes returning in greater numbers each year.”
This year, nearly 500 alumni and friends returned to campus to reconnect and reminisce. It was the largest turnout in recent years. And despite somewhat unseasonably hot and humid conditions, everyone seemed to have a great time. And so, we close the curtain is closed on Puttin' on the 'Berg, Alumni Weekend 2017.
