Alumni return en masse

Here are some of the highlights from Alumni Weekend 2019, "One Giant Leap for Heidelberg," held June 21-23. View a gallery of photos from the weekend here.

ARTISTS AMONG US

A new event, “Raise Your Brush,” provided alumni with the opportunity to try their hand at painting a pallet while paying tribute to their alma mater and creating a bit of ’Berg memorabilia for home. Many thanks to Andy Carter, ’04, and his wife, Laura, who taught the alumni their new skill.

A MAGICAL TIME

Paul Brown, ’69, one of the original members of The Mystics, a highly successful Motown-style band comprised of talented ‘Berg students in the late ‘60s, helps alumni relive those glory days with a look back at the musical group, their awesome sound and synchronized choreography. Through lots of research, Paul also shared “Where Are They Now?” updates of Mystics members for his Classes Without Quizzes presentation.

IN REMEMBRANCE

While Alumni Weekend sets the stage for classmates and friends to reconnect, it’s also a solemn reminder of those who have passed away in the past year. Here, alumni gather for the annual Remembrance and Tree Planting ceremony outside Gillmor Hall of Science. Campus Minister Paul Sittason Stark (pictured here) conducted the ceremony, while President Rob Huntington and Board of Trustees Chair Kathy Geier, ’78, read the names of deceased alumni.

KICKING OFF THE WEEKEND

We couldn’t have asked for more perfect weather for the entirety of Alumni Weekend, including for the big kickoff event, the BBQ picnic on the lawn of the Campus Center. Alumni enjoyed seeing each other, sharing some laughs, and dining on delicious fare from Parkhurst Dining.

GOLDEN GUYS

Members of the Golden Anniversary reunion class of 1969 led the traditional Parade of Classes down Greenfield Street on Saturday. Following behind were other reunion classes celebrating milestone anniversaries this year. All of the reunion classes celebrated further with dinners Saturday night.

A ‘BERG LEGACY

The first alumnus from the Zartman-Diefenbach-Thompson Legacy Family was in the first graduating class of 1854. From there, nearly 30 alumni have left their mark on Heidelberg since its founding days. Trevor Thompson, ’89, represented the family as they received the 2019 Legacy Family Award at the luncheon on Saturday.

ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING

Alumnus Elrich “Pete” Green, ’78, of Burlington Township, New Jersey, has carried his strong standard of being engaged and making a difference all throughout his lifetime of remarkable service, committing his time and volunteer efforts to education, community service, public office and service to his alma mater. For his commitment to living a life of purpose with distinction, Pete received the 2019 Outstanding Alumni Award on Saturday.

LANDMARK REUNION GIVING

The Landmark Reunion Classes of 2009, 1994, 1979, 1969, 1964 and 1959 gave everyone pause to say thanks for their belief in and support of Heidelberg with their collective reunion giving total of $2,556,551, revealed at the luncheon and presented to ‘Berg President Rob Huntington on Saturday.
