Trustees honor retiring Quellhorst with service endowment

Rev. Dr. Ralph Quellhorst, ’59, the longest tenured among current Board of Trustees members, participated in his final board meeting June 15-17. After 37 years of service, the second longest in Heidelberg board history, he has retired from the board.

Trustee colleagues honored Ralph for his dedicated service at a luncheon Thursday, June 16. At the lunch, Trustee Dave Drake, '58, surprised Ralph by announcing that an endowed fund had been created and funded to support student community service in his name.

Funds from The Sue and Ralph Quellhorst Endowment for Student Community Service will be used for community service programming, education, staffing and outreach to enable students to serve the broader community, with specific impact on Martin Luther King Jr. Community Service Day activities.

Board members contributed major funds to the endowment, which stands at $288,508 as part of ACCE.

The entire board expressed their awe, admiration and affection for Ralph. “Ralph is a giant in our history,” Rob said. “He has been always steady in his aim, always calm in his demeanor and always persistent in his inquiry. He has never wavered from wanting to make his Heidelberg a better place.”
