Marching Band strikes up support

Jon Waters directs the Marching Band in a performance for friends and donors Thursday night.

When Jon Waters arrived at Heidelberg about 14 months ago, he was greeted with blank stares when he asked about the instrument inventory for the marching band he had signed on to create. Now the Heidelberg University Marching Band -- no longer emerging but emerged -- is on the threshold of some big-time accomplishments. New uniforms and new instruments have been purchased, thanks to the generous support of donors who believe in Jon and in the Marching Band's potential to revive a long-standing tradition, serve as a recruitment resource and make all of us proud. Thursday night, the community came together to show their support of the band at a fun and entertaining fund-raising event called Strike Up the Bands
