German Stammtisch: Weekly Culture and Fun!

The German Stammtisch (shtahm-tish) happens every Wednesday at 6 p.m. in Pfleiderer 102. The Stammtisch is a casual get-together with games, music, and informal conversation. It’s open to everyone: Students of all levels of German as well as others with an interest in German are invited to participate. It’s all about having fun, sharing culture, and providing some new insight into global topics.

Hannah Blochwitz is the Teaching Assistant from Heidelberg, Germany, and the organizer of the German Stammtisch. She is a Masters Student at the University of Heidelberg in Germany studying German as a Foreign Language. She has come to Tiffin to experience life in the U.S. and gain first hand experience in teaching German. Hannah organizes the Stammtische to provide a fun way for students to learn about German culture.

The topic of tuition in Germany frequently comes up in conversation. In Germany, higher education is free of charge, which makes the education all the more rigorous in order to thin the courses. However, thanks to the American Junior Year Program, there are always spots open for students from Heidelberg, Tiffin, to study in Heidelberg, Germany, at a comparable tuition rate to Heidelberg University in Tiffin. The hope is to make sure freshmen know about this opportunity so they can prepare to spend a Junior summer, semester, or year abroad. For more information, check out the AJY webpage.

So, if studying abroad, or just learning more about the world with some good company is interesting to you, check out the German Stammtisch this week – and bring a friend!
