Austin Neura ties school record

OBERLIN, Ohio -- A school-record performance by Austin Neura led the Heidelberg cross country team to a 15th-place finish at the 39-team Oberlin Inter-Regional Rumble on Saturday. Heidelberg outperformed several regionally ranked opponents.

Neura finished third overall -- 9.6 seconds off the lead. His time of 24:45.6 essentially ties the Heidelberg 8K record, held by Adam Koppin. Koppin's time from 1997 is listed as 24:45.00 in the school annals.

"Austin is beginning to look the part of an All-American," said Head Coach Brian Grime. "He's running really nice workouts, and his races are really starting to reflect what he is capable of."

David Drushal finished 27th with a time of 25:16.7.

"The men raced really strong this weekend when we needed it most," said Grime. "A lot of guys stepped up and we were able to compete with and beat some really good teams in the region. We're excited to start the postseason."

Dylan Weichert was next across the line for Heidelberg. He took 131st with a time of 26:39.6. Mitch Luken followed with a 26:45.9, taking 143rd.

Rounding out the scoring for the Student Princes was Tyler Hudson with a 27:17.8, 192nd.

Heidelberg returns to action at the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships on November 2.
