International business honorary chapter installed

Regional Delta Mu Delta rep Dr. Timothy Scales (center) installs Heidelberg's new chapter here with faculty co-advisors Dr. Haseeb Ahmed and Dr. Maef Woods and the first two honorary members, Trustees John Kratz, '63, and Andrew Kalnow.

The School of Business, Computer Science and Information Technology is the newest member of the prestigious Delta Mu Delta, an international honor society for business programs accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs.

“This is a milestone for the School of Business and one of my dreams,” said Dean Dr. Haseeb Ahmed. “Delta Mu Delta brings a lot of opportunity for our business students.”

Delta Mu Delta provides a way for high-achieving business students to be recognized for their academic excellence. The organization provides scholarships to eligible students, access to a network of achievement-minded people, acknowledgement for federal employment and access to real-world business news. The society was founded by Harvard University and four professors from Yale University and New York University in 1913.

Dr. Timothy W. Scales, senior lecturer at the School of Business and Economics at Indiana University East and Delta Mu Delta Region 4 (Great Lakes) representative, was on campus to officially install Heidelberg’s charter and chapter, Haseeb as its faculty advisor and Dr. Maef Woods as the co-advisor.

“Every time we install a new chapter, we are growing our family,” Scales said. “It a slow growth because our standards are so high. When we accept you, it means your students have high standards too, and we want you to maintain that.”

Scales encouraged students to apply for Delta Mu Delta scholarships.

As a special part of the installation, Haseeb installed honorary members Andrew Kalnow and John Kratz, both members of the Board of Trustees. Kratz, ’63, is on campus this week, serving as the School of Business’s Executive-in-Residence.
