Grad counseling students emerging as young leaders

Two students in the Master of Arts in Counseling program are stepping up in preparation for their professional careers, and both are being recognized for their up-and-coming leadership abilities.

Savannah Long has been selected as a 2019-20 Ohio School Counselor Association Emerging Leader. The program is an opportunity for OSCA to identify potential leaders who get introduced to service on the board, according to OSCA’s website. OSCA’s emerging leaders attend board meetings, assist with committees and learn the ins and outs of the organization.

The students also assist at OSCA’s All Ohio Counselor Conference and other events, serve as mentors and on standing committees. Savannah is one of just three students selected by OSCA as emerging leaders this year.

Mo Stohlman has been selected as a 2019-20 Ohio Association for Spiritual, Ethical, and Religious Values in Counseling (OASERVIC) Emerging Leader through a program designed to provide graduate counseling students and new professionals early in their careers with cultivating experiences that enhance leadership skills and competency development.

According to its website, OASERVIC gives its emerging leaders the opportunity to participate in Executive Board meetings, serve on a committee, task force, and/or engage in projects of interest, receive mentorship, build professional networks and gain exposure to the responsibilities associated with fulfilling elected counselor leadership positions in Ohio.

Mo is among two graduate counseling students and one new professional selected as Emerging Leaders who will provide a minimum of 50 hours of service to the OASERVIC during the 2019-20 term, which begins this month.
