Veterans Day 'touches us all'

Airman First Class Miles Penn

Student Senate held its annual Veterans Day ceremony on a chilly but bright Friday afternoon, honoring those who have served and those who are currently serving our country. Dr. Daryl Close, professor of computer science and philosophy, gave welcoming remarks about his experience as a young Army soldier in the Vietnam War. Current student Miles Penn, Airman First Class, talked about the camaraderie of the military and his deeper understanding of the meaning of Veterans Day. The Singing Collegians performed the National Anthem. As has been the case in recent years, the United Veterans Council posted the colors, conducted a 21-gun salute and played the solemn "Taps." Chaplain Paul Stark closed the ceremony with a prayer for peace.
