It's On Us offers bystander training

Dr. Robin Heaton was a co-facilitator for Bystander Training Tuesday.

Nearly 60 students gathered in the University Commons on Tuesday night for Bystander Training. As part of the ongoing campus It's On Us campaign, Professors Stephen Svoboda and Robin Heaton moderated a two-hour session. The first half of the session opened up dialogue as to what is OK and what is not when it comes to drawing the line on sexual harassment and assault. The group discussed what options both victims and bystanders have should incidents occur. During the second hour, participants were able to anonymously write their personal experiences on index cards. The cards were randomly selected and read aloud to discuss what the person or bystander could have done in that particular situation. The exercise demonstrated that these incidents can happen to anyone.

The It's On Us campaign continues to bring programs to campus which will be capped off with "Sex Week" April 23-27 including keynote speakers, Walk A Mile In Her Shoes event, along with several others.
