Spurlock's super-sized HYPE message
If you want to stand out, maybe even rock the boat a little, you should follow Morgan Spurlock’s example. The award-winning filmmaker was on campus Tuesday as the keynote speaker for HYPE Career Ready Day.
“You don’t want to be too crazy, but you want to be brilliant. You want to be inspiring. You want to be genius,” said Spurlock, the director and star of the 2004 documentary Super Size Me and other thought-provoking, even provocative films. Super Size Me explored the fast food industry’s corporate influence on poor nutrition.
Through his HYPE presentation, Spurlock reflected on the characteristics needed to tell original stories while taking risks. “It takes a lot of nerve,” he said. “You have to be ready and willing to take criticism … and you need people who believe in your vision, people who have your back.”
