Where HU Takes U: Lydia Rodriguez

Once a part of the Heidelberg family, always a part of the Heidelberg family – but after graduation, our Student Princes are now the hard-working and ever-learning leaders of a new community. In our new web series, we’re checking in with our recent grads about their Heidelberg journeys, and asking them Where HU Takes U.

Lydia Rodriguez

Lydia Rodriguez grew up in Baltimore, Ohio. She majored in biology and minored in Spanish, and graduated in 2023.

What is your current position and when did you begin?

My current position is a Lab Technician in the Immunology department of Nationwide Children's Hospital. I have not started yet, actually, but I begin on the 21 of this month and I am very excited!

What has been surprising about your new position or the process of earning it thus far?

The surprising part of earning this position was that it all began with a hiring event that NCH hosted and then from there connections were made and then positions were offered!

What knowledge or skills do you rely on most in your day to day life?

The skill that I rely most on in my day to day life is simple communication.

What experiences or individuals were particularly impactful during your time at Heidelberg and in what ways?

I feel like I learned a lot more than just the material taught in my classes throughout my four years. There were life skills taught indirectly like effective communication, creative thinking, and problem solving.

What advice do you have for current undergrads trying to find their next step?

Definitely be patient and take all the opportunities that you can, even if it is out of your comfort zone.
