Work of 8 student writers featured in Humanities journal

Eight English majors have recently completed the arduous task of publishing the 2021 Pfleiderer Humanities Showcase Journal, and it was a great learning experience all around.

The showcase is a newer tradition that gives students the ability to showcase their amazing writing. Each fall, sophomore and junior English majors in Dr. Barry Devine’s ENG 290 class organize the publication as an opportunity to learn the process of writing and publishing a journal.

This year’s journal features the work of the following students: Sarah Zapola, Allison Fisher, Emma Wright, Megan Zimmerman, Kayla Mullinax, Cameron Spraggins, James Williams and Emma Baughman.

The editorial staff included: Alyssa Amor, Revision and Evaluation; Jenna Farr, Layout and Design; Sophia Lee, Revision and Evaluation, Publication and Announcement; Paige Leitner, Submission Collection and Distribution; Julia Schaefer, Call for Papers, Layout and Design; Carolyn Schutte, Revision and Evaluation; Kelsey Stansfield, Call for Papers, Cover Design, Publication and Announcement; and Emma Wright, Layout and Design.

For the second year, the pandemic dictated that the journal be presented online, instead of in person. Nonetheless, the staff is pleased with the outcome.

“We would like to thank Dr. Barry Devine for guiding us through this process,” they wrote in the intro. “Thanks also to the students who submitted; there would be no journal without papers.”
