'Berg's fastest man finishes 15th at DIII Nationals

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- The stellar sophomore season for the fastest man in Heidelberg University history came to an end on Friday at the NCAA Division III National Championships.

Entering as the last of 22 qualifiers in the 100-meterr dash, Jake McEntyre finished 15th, running a 10.606.

The top eight finishers advanced to Saturday's finals.

Jake broke three school records during the school year, including the outdoor 200 meter record which had stood since 1977.

How he qualified

Jake qualified for the NCAA Division III Championship in Myrtle Beach, S.C., with a time of 10.53. In doing so, the 'Berg record holder becomes the first male to qualify for the 100 in school history. Hall of Famer Judi Bataille was Heidelberg's only other 100 qualifier, a feat she accomplished in 2009.

Jake's 10.53 came during the OAC Championships, hosted by Heidelberg at H's Track and Hoernemann Stadium. After winning the 100 and finishing second in the 200, he was voted Most Outstanding Male Sprinter of the meet.

In addition to qualifying in the 100, Jake missed out on qualifying in the 200 by, quite literally, less than the blink of an eye -- falling 0.02 seconds off the pace.

Jake is Heidelberg's first national qualifier since Dan Stoll advanced in the 400-meter dash in 2021.
