Business students getting WSJ -- for free

The Wall Street Journal’s 20 million digital readership just got a little bit bigger.

As of this week, the School of Business is pleased to offer all current undergraduate and graduate students access to The Wall Street Journal’s premium digital products – including WSJ’s online edition and smartphone and tablet apps, free of charge. Faculty will receive an online subscription plus daily paper copies of the WSJ.

As the No. 1 most trusted newspaper (according to the Pew Research Center), WSJ access will provide School of Business students with a deeper understanding of current global news and probing analysis of markets, corporations, financials and technologies.

Students will have the opportunity to customize their WSJ.com subscription to track companies and industries for class projects and research.

According to Dr. Haseeb Ahmed, WSJ is incorporated into several classes already and may be used more widely once the entire School of Business has access. “Professors are integrating WSJ articles into their courses to engage and enlighten students to current events and economic trends,” he said.

Haseeb added that having access to the WSJ will close the gap between theory and application and enable School of Business faculty to link course learning outcomes such as development of critical thinking skills and strategic problem solving, acquire ethical and global perspectives and augment communication skills.

“This provides a competitive advantage to School of Business students through being engaged, enlightened and invigorated to apply their knowledge to new opportunities,” Haseeb said. “Our students will learn the vernacular of the profession while being aware of the surrounding environment in which they aspire to make a difference.”

School of Business students, here’s how to get started:

1. Log in to your OASIS account.

2. Go to the Personal Information menu.

3. Find the Wall Street Journal link at the bottom of the menu.

4. You will be asked to create an account or if you already have an account, you can use your existing credentials.

5. Once you establish your log-in credentials, you will be able to access WSJ.com via OASIS or outside the network.

6. You can also download the WSJ tablet and smartphone apps from your device’s app store and log in using the credentials you’ve created.
