4 professors honored for excellence in teaching, research, humanities, service

Congratulations go out to four faculty members who have received high honors for their excellence in teaching, research, commitment to the humanities, and distinguished service to the campus. The recognition and presentation of the annual Faculty Awards took place on Thursday, March 20, after weather forced it to be rescheduled from the February Board of Trustees annual dinner last month.

This year’s award recipients are as follows:
•    Dr. Matthew Kennedy, Assistant Professor of Composition and Theory – the Distinguished Scholarship/Research Award
•    Dr. DoHee Kim-Appel, Professor of Graduate Counseling – the Jane Frost Kalnow Professorship in the Humanities
•    Dr. Ryan Musgrave, Associate Professor of Athletic Training – the Faculty Distinguished Service Award
•    Dr. Justin Pruneski, Associate Professor of Biological and Environmental Sciences – the Ream-Paradiso Distinguished Teaching Award.

Each recipient shared remarks at the awards dinner, giving advice and appreciation for teaching, research, and service to students.

Two of this year's award winners are multiple recipients. Previously, Ryan received the Innovative Teaching Award (2013-14) and Justin received the Distinguished Scholarship/Research Award (2018-19).

The dinner was hosted this year by Trustee Beth Long-Higgins '84. President Rob Huntington welcomed faculty and guests and Chaplain Karsten Snitker provided the invocation. Provost Courtney DeMayo Pugno presented the awards.

This year was the 25th anniversary of the first presentation of the Jane Frost Kalnow Professorship Award. Professor Emerita Dr. Ruth Wahlstrom was the first recipient in 2000-02. It’s the 29th year that the Ream-Paradiso Distinguished Teaching Award has been presented, the 26th year for the Distinguished Scholarship/Research Award for Faculty, and the eighth year for the Faculty Distinguished Service Award.
