'Berg Board member inducted into hall of honor for career, service achievements

Board of Trustees member and alumnus Claudie Johnson ’85 is among three individuals inducted into the Sidney City Schools Hall of Honor during a ceremony on April 25.

Recognized as a distinguished financial professional, community advocate, and trusted advisor with decades of experience in banking, credit unions, and wealth management, Claudie currently serves as the managing director and founder of JareMarc Advisors, LLC, where he specializes in retirement planning, wealth management, and financial counseling. His mission is to empower individuals and communities to reach financial security.

According to a news release, Claudie’s extensive career also includes leadership roles at 1st Choice Union, Self-Help Credit Union, Society Bank (now KeyBank), First Union Bank, Merrill Lynch, and Fifth Third Bank. He has been a certified financial planner for 21 years and is also dedicated to supporting U.S. military personnel through financial literacy programs both domestically and abroad.

In his community, Claudie is known as a passionate advocate for education and social impact. He backs up his passion by supporting organizations such as the United Way, the United Negro College Fund, and the Charlotte, North Carolina, Rescue Mission, where he also serves on the board. In addition to Heidelberg’s Board of Trustees, he also serves on the Johnson C. Smith University Board of Visitors.

While an undergrad at the Berg, Claudie was a stellar student-athlete, majoring in Business Administration and excelling on the basketball court during one of the greatest eras of ‘Berg basketball. He remains one of the program’s most recognizable stars. A sharp-shooting guard, he helped lead the Student Princes to the NCAA Sweet 16 at the conclusion of the 1983-84 dream season. In 2017, he was inducted into the Heidelberg Athletics Hall of Fame.

His service as a Trustee began in 2021, and he currently serves on the Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, and Advancement, Alumni & Community Relations committees of the Board. Additionally, he co-chaired the fundraising committee to name Sayger-Hill Court and has been a strong supporter of the Fieldhouse project.

Claudie is the father of two grown sons, Christian and Cameron, and resides in Charlotte.  His brothers, Kenneth (Gene) Johnson and Paul Johnson are also ‘Berg graduates in 1993 and 2008, respectively.
