Poster session: 'Plagues of Man' honors students

Q: What do Nazis, cannibals, monsters, assassination attempts and government cover-ups have in common?

A: They can all be related to intriguing stories of infectious diseases in history!

The students of HNR203: The Scientist (Plagues of Man: How Infectious Disease Has Shaped Human History) have been hard at work on group projects that we would like to share with the campus. The groups chose and researched topics and then developed case studies to teach the class through a story that weaves together the history and microbiology of their topic. Please join us at a poster session on Monday, Dec. 11, from 1:30-2:30 p.m. in The University Commons Atrium to learn more about these interesting topics and hear how they developed their case studies.

Student groups and their topics are as follows:

Baily Croft, Ben Gutzky and Tim Jasper: How to Elude Nazis 101
Kim Keenan, Allison Krebs and Savannah Naugle-Baker: A Real-Life Horror Story: How the Cause of Encephalitis lethargica Remains a Mystery
Hollie Dunn, Chloe Jaffe and Kevin Scrudders: People Snacks: A Mild Case of Laughing Death in Every Bite
Kaylee Fredrickson, Payge Smith and Anna Winnicki: Man's Beastly Friend
Brock Conner and Zach Evans: Rewriting History: What Killed Alexander the Great?
Madeline Flores and Leah Wagner: Pests, Plagues and Politics
