HYPE session leaders sought
HYPE Career Ready Session submissions for the Fall 2018 semester are currently being sought. Submissions must be received by March 1 as students will begin registering for HYPE Sessions starting March 26.
If you are interested in repeating a session from last year, you can email hype@heidelberg.edu. You don't need to re-submit via the Google Form.
If you would like to create a new HYPE session, you can submit your session information by completing the Google Drive HYPE Session Submission Form. Students tend to favor sessions that stress practical life skills (time and stress management, budgeting, finance), target specific career information and short excursions. Lecture or presentation sessions are not well attended. We want students practicing HYPE skills, not just hearing about them!
If you would be interested in leading a HYPE session, but don’t have the time to create a new session, we do have some tried-and-true packaged sessions that will provide a framework and basic plans. These packaged sessions currently include:
• Circle of Energy – How to make good first impressions through a balance of listening and engaging with others.
• Listening: The Lost Art of Communication – Facilitator reads a story with students following particular directions. Students then take a short quiz to see what they heard of the context of the story.
• Managing Time – Using a calendar and sticky notes, students learn to prioritize and plan out time to complete their to-do list.
• Non-Verbal Communication – Understanding what our facial expressions and body language communicate to others.
• Careers in (your subject matter) – Usually a panel of alumni and others who discuss the type of career they entered based on their major area of study.
• Writing a Resume for (your subject matter) – What should be included and emphasized on a resume based on the type of career for which you are searching.
• LinkedIn – Guide students through setting up a LinkedIn profile and how to use it to effectively network for internships and other career-related information.
• Three Worlds – A simulation survival game that stresses communication and collaboration under pressure.
• Your Digital Brand – Help students understand the importance of developing a personal digital brand as well as navigating the pitfalls of shared information in social media
Remember, HYPE pays for session costs! For example, if you host a field trip to an area attraction, HYPE will pay for the charter bus and admission fees.
