He looks familiar: Prof's brother at 'Berg

Zac Beres, the brother of chemistry professor Dr. Nate Beres, was on campus Monday to talk about his research on herbicide resistance in weeds and his experience in graduate school at Ohio State, where he is currently a fifth-year Ph.D. student. Zac gave a presentation and had lunch with interested students.

At OSU, Zac is associated with the Department of Evolution, Ecology and Organismal Biology. As an undergraduate at Walsh University, double majoring in biology and chemistry, he researched the ecological impact and potential for remediation of acidic pit lakes, a by-product of mining operations. His current research focuses on the ecological and evolutionary implications associated with herbicide resistance. To investigate this, he uses Conyza canadensis, a summer/winter-annual common in no-till, RoundUp Ready soybean fields, from Ohio, Iowa and Canada as well as transgenic Arabidopsis thaliana.

Dr. Mark Mitchell invited Zac to Heidelberg, where his lecture covered various aspects of his research and his journey through graduate school.
