Draper wins Berg Falcon accounting scholarship

Hannah Draper

Congratulations to graduating senior Hannah R. Draper, the winner of the 2018 Berg Falcon Master of Accountancy Scholarship Award.

Hannah, a December grad from Carey, Ohio, with majors in business administration and accounting, was overwhelmed at receiving the award, and appreciative of her Heidelberg experience.

“No words are enough to show how much the award means to me,” she said. “Heidelberg has truly given me opportunities I could have never dreamed of four years ago when trying to decide which college was best for me. I have no doubt that I picked the right one.”

An Honors student at Heidelberg, Hannah is the seventh Heidelberg student placed into the Berg Falcon Master of Accountancy program. 2017 recipient Kyle Karaffa has an assurance position at Ernst & Young waiting for him upon his completion of the program. Accounting instructor Andrea Roerdink, who served on the award selection committee along with Dr. Maef Woods, was the initial recipient of this award.

The runner-up for this year’s scholarship is senior Owen Best, who will graduate in May with a double major in accounting and business administration (concentrations in finance and marketing).

The Berg Falcon scholarship is a partnership between Heidelberg’s School of Business, Computer Science and Information Technology and Bowling Green State University’s College of Business. It is designed to recruit the best and brightest accounting students who want to take the next step toward a successful career in accounting. Students who have received their undergraduate degree in accounting from Heidelberg are considered for acceptance.

Through the program, Heidelberg accounting students take an additional 30 semester hours of coursework to meet the 150-hour requirement to sit for the CPA exam via BGSU’s Master of Accountancy program, which meets the Ohio State Board of Accountancy requirements for obtaining the CPA designation.

“We wish Hannah and Owen success in their graduate studies leading to a professional career in public accounting,” said Dean Dr. Haseeb Ahmed.
