MAC students attend Legislative Advocacy Day

The MAC program was well represented at Legislative Advocacy Day.

More than 20 students from Heidelberg’s Graduate Counseling Program attended Legislative Advocacy Day on April 11 in Columbus. Legislative Advocacy Day is an annual event, organized by the Ohio Counselors Association. The event provides an excellent opportunity for professionals in the counseling field to meet their respective Ohio state representatives and discuss the implementation of bills that promote the counseling profession.

Students had the opportunity to meet Sen. Charleta Tavares of Columbus, the assistant Senate Minority Leader. Sen. Tavares sponsors Senate Bill 126, which prohibits health professionals from using conversion therapy. Students also met with aides for State Sen. David Burke, whose 26th District includes Seneca County and State Rep. Bill Reineke of Tiffin to discuss Senate Bill 43, which grants probate judges the power to order outpatient treatment for those with a documented history of harming themselves or others.

“Advocacy Day is all about being able to speak to our state representatives about future bills that promote the counseling profession,” said MAC student Rob Fruscella.
