Come see Minds@Work this week

The 25th annual Minds@Work Student Research Conference takes place on Wednesday. More than 80 students are scheduled to give presentations on their research and/or present posters during the daylong event. Presentations begin at 9 a.m. and conclude at 4 p.m. Following the keynote presentation, all of the presenters and their faculty mentors will gather for lunch in Wickham Great Hall. Posters will be presented at 12:30 p.m. in CC120.

The keynote speaker is Dr. Julie Reynolds, an associate professor of the Practice in the Biology Department at Duke University. She also serves as the director of Undergraduate Studies. In 2002, she was one of the first scientists to teach in the award-winning Thompson Writing Program at Duke. As a member of the biology faculty, she teaches a graduate level course on scientific teaching, and writing-intensive science courses, including a course for undergraduate thesis writers. In addition to teaching, Julie has an active research program focused on pedagogies that promote science literacy, particularly Writing-to-Learn strategies.

Reynolds’ keynote address will be at 11 a.m. in Rickly Chapel. Her topic will be “What People Think Researchers Do/What They Actually Do.”
